A Brits guide to Orlando and Walt Disney World

Park Tickets

For many, the greatest attraction to visiting Central Florida are the fantastic theme parks.

Disney boasts 4 major parks; Magic Kingdom, MGM Studios, EPCOT and Animal Kingdom and a number of other attractions including Disney Quest (an interactive park) and 2 water parks Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach.

Universal offers its Universal Studios and the Islands of Adventure and both are close to the independent Wet n Wild water park.

Busch-Anheuser operates SeaWorld, Discovery Cove and Busch Gardens at Tampa.

There are a host of other attractions as well to keep everyone amused.

When planning your visit consider getting the best value from your tickets.  Disney offer a huge number of options.  From a single ticket at the door to annual go when you want.  To be honest the options can be a little daunting so to summarise:

3,4,5,6, or 7day Base Ticket - this expires 14 days after you start using it and allows you in the 4 parks for the set number of days but you can only go in one park each day

3,4,5,6, or 7 day Base Ticket - same as above but the ticket only expires when you have used up all of your days so you could save it for a future visit.

3,4,5,6, or 7 day Base Ticket Hopper expires - this expires 14 days after you start using it but you can 'hop' between the parks visiting as many as you like each day.

3,4,5,6,7,or10 day Base Ticket Hopper no expiry - you get the idea.

3,4,5,6,7 or 10 day Magic Plus Ticket with expiry - this expires 14 days after you start using it and allows you in the 4 parks for the set number of days but you can only go in one park each day.  In addition you get free entrance to the Disney Water Parks, Pleasure Island and World Wide Sports.  A 3 day ticket allows you 2 free visits, 4 & 5 day = 3 visits, 6 day = 4 visits. 7 & 10 day = 5 visits

The above also comes without expiry and as a Premium Ticket which has a 'hopper' option with or without a 14 day expiry.

Universal and Busch also sell tickets individually or as Flex Packages.  Within their packages you get access to Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Sea World and Wet n Wild on a 4 Park Flex and Busch Gardens is included in a 5 Park.  These tickets give you 14 consecutive days entry into the various parks and you can 'hop'

Entry into Discovery Cove will usually get you free entry to SeaWorld.

Our advice is buy before you go and don't buy from places offering discounts.  If you arrive without your tickets you will have to queue at either an official seller or at you chosen park with the thousands of other visitors.  Unless you only intend to visit that park once and none of its sister parks you will not save money and you will waste time.  The kids are likely to be up early when you first arrive in Florida so make the most of it and get into the park as it opens.  The discounted tickets are usually vouchers which you then have to exchange at the park or else you have to endure a timeshare pitch.

To the left are places where you can get a good deal.  The OfficialTicketCenter is in Orlando and Keith Prause is a UK travel company.
